Dr. Fauci Says This is the #1 Thing to Not Do Right Now

0 19

The coronavirus pandemic is far from over, as we have 70,000 cases a day in America and 64 million Americans still unvaccinated. With the holidays approaching, cases could spike again. In response, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden last night to sound a warning and offer some hope, and also mentioned the #1 thing you should not do this holiday season. Read on for five essential points—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don’t miss these Sure Signs You’ve Already Had COVID.

Dr. Fauci Warned Far More Unvaccinated People Were Getting COVID Than Vaccinated People

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki got a COVID infection recently even after being fully vaccinated. Does this confuse people about the effectiveness of the vaccine, Corden wondered “It makes the message more difficult, but I think if you get the facts to people, you can really steer away from that misguided message,” said Dr. Fauci. “First of all, if you look at the data of people who have vaccinated versus people who have not been vaccinated, the infection rate, the fold increase in infection is about five or more in infection. About 10 times more people who get into the hospital are vaccinated, unvaccinated versus vaccinated. More than 10 times more people who die from COVID-19 are unvaccinated. So the data are overwhelming as to the advantage. Now, since no vaccine is a hundred percent protected against infection, it is not surprising when you get so many people vaccinated that you are going to see breakthrough infections. Like we saw with Jen Psaki, she’s doing very well. She has mild symptoms that may not have been the case if she wasn’t vaccinated. So you should not take away from the extraordinary importance of vaccination, not only for your own health for that of your family and for the community. So it really is you’re right. It is a bit frustrating when people distort the message and say, well, look, a person who was vaccinated got infected. Therefore we shouldn’t get vaccinated. Not so at all, not.”

Dr. Fauci Said the Politicization of Science is Costing Lives. The Virus is the Enemy of Us All.

Misinformation and politicization of science—”It’s not only frustrating. It’s painful because you know what, at the end of the day, people are going to die as a result of misinformation and disinformation,” said Fauci. “So, you know, it does get a political connotation to it. There’s ideological differences that get in the way of good public health practice that should never ever happened. The common enemy is the virus, not each other. And if you look at the divisiveness that we see in this country, one would think that we’re fighting with each other instead of fighting with the virus.”

Dr. Fauci Said This is the #1 Thing You Should Not Do

How to fully enjoy the holidays? “Vaccination,” said Dr. Fauci. “Vaccination provides a very strong degree of protection against infection and severe disease. Get vaccinated, spend time with your family. The idea that you can have Christmas with your family and your loved ones—you definitely can. One of the things, when you say that do’s and don’ts, that’s a ‘do’ enjoy the Christmas holiday, enjoy the holiday season, but the things you don’t want to do since we still have an average of about 70,000 infections per day, be careful when you go to congregate settings, indoor in which you’re not familiar with what the status of the people are in the congregant setting. And that’s the reason why the CDC says even when you are vaccinated, if you’re going to go to an unfamiliar place indoors, not necessarily good ventilation, wear a mask as a very extra bit of precaution. But when it comes to family, the kinds of things we cherish family dinners during the holiday, go ahead and do it by all means.”

Dr. Fauci Said Vaccines for Kids 5 to 11 Will Be Safe, Once Approved

Vaccines for kids 5 to 11, expected to be approved today by the CDC, will be “absulutely” safe, said Dr. Fauci. “I think the best testimony that I can give to that, I have three adult daughters, but if my children now were in the range of five to 11, I would absolutely get them vaccinated. Because even though statistically, a child who gets infected doesn’t have as much chance of getting severe disease as an adult or particularly an elderly person, they still can get quite sick. There have been over 700 deaths among children right now with COVID-19 children could get a syndrome called multi-system inflammatory syndrome of children. You can get long COVID, which means you can recover from a mild to moderate infection and you could still have the lingering of symptoms. And also children can spread to others even within the household. So there’s really very good reasons to get children vaccinated, which is the reason why I repeat, if my children, within that age range, I absolutely would get them vaccinated.”

Dr. Fauci Said This About the Possible End to the Pandemic

“For sure we’re going to get through this,” said Fauci. “We can get through it more quickly if we get more people vaccinated, we have about 64 million people in this country who are eligible to be vaccinated who are not getting vaccinated, we’ve got to do better. We also got to make sure that we have a global response to a global pandemic and we believe, I do believe we have a moral responsibility to get vaccine doses for those areas of the world, low and middle income countries that don’t have the resources. If we do that, we will end this. I will guarantee you, we will put this behind us. I can’t tell you exactly when, because it’s going to depend a lot on what we do, particularly how successful we are and getting not only people in our own country vaccinated, but the rest of the world, but we should look ahead and not feel hopeless or helpless. We can, and we’ll get through this guaranteed.” So get vaccinated, and to protect your life and the lives of others, don’t visit any of these 35 Places You’re Most Likely to Catch COVID.
